Where does a young royal go for luxurious relaxation?
Riverrun Lodge, a discreet, intimate property near Lake Wanaka, New Zealand, recently hosted His Royal Highness Prince Harry on May 11th.
The prince and his party enjoyed a lunch by Chef Karen Marinkovic highlighting local ingredients including Cardrona merino lamb, Aoraki salmon and Blue River sheep’s cheese quiche, accompanied by roasted spiced vegetables and quinoa salads, followed by a layered apple and walnut cake and dark chocolate date and ginger slices for desert.
As the lodge is on the western edge of the Central Otago wine region – famed pinot noir country – the royal group was treated to Mt Difficulty Roaring Meg pinot noir and a Felton Road pinot noir.
Sounds like a meal fit for a royal!
Riverrun Lodge was well suited for a relaxing private break in the royal schedule due to it being small, friendly and private but still professional and very comfortable.
“As Wanaka is very-laid back, it was the perfect destination,” says owner Meg Taylor. “There were lots of ideas for activities discussed, from mountain biking, to fly fishing, lake fishing, jet boating and helicopter flights but we were also advised that Prince Harry might be happy to just relax.”
In the end, the weather decided against many outdoor activities and most of the royal party was happy to relax over the long lunch and lounge around the lodge. Prince Harry seemed to enjoy himself and on leaving, jocularly promised to “bring a little more sunshine with him next time he visits.”
Following the success of opening the flagship stores in Los Angeles and New York, Dsquared2 has recently opened up shop in Miami.
Located in the prestigious shopping center of Bal Harbour, the Dsquared2 flagship is the third U.S. store for the brand Made in Italy with Canadian Roots. Dean and Dan Caten, owners and creative directors, and Milan-based architectural firm Storage associate are behind the store’s design, which is modeled on a new Dsquared2 flagship template.
“We adore Miami, we visit there often to holiday and are inspired by the city and its people. That’s why opening our Dsquared2 store in Bal Harbour is such an important moment for us and our brand. We just celebrated our 20th anniversary. To be able to do so with our flagship in such an important luxury destination has been a long-held dream of ours”, said Dan and Dean Caten.
Unfolding over 2,000 square feet on the first floor, the store is a fluid and enveloping space. Different product categories’ displays and areas are subtly divided through architectural proportions and furnishing details.
Outside, the façade’s windows are framed with vertical inserts of lark wood which make a refined visual statement. An inspiration close to Dean and Dan Caten’s Canadian heritage, forest and nature are the underlying themes of the store’s interior. Antler decorated light fixtures featured throughout, while the dressing rooms have a colorful backdrop in illuminated imagery of verdant Canadian forests. Soft beige carpeted areas, contrasting with ochre velvet armchairs softly illuminated by floor lamps. Tall screens and vertical metal rods make spaces more intimate. Fine cage style dividers sensually disperse light onto display areas.
The Bal Harbour Flagship will carry iconic Dsquared2 collections. Both men’s and women’s ready to wear collections are joined with fragrance, eyewear, and accessories. No Dsquared2 woman would be without her towering heels, and the store also features a dedicated space to Dsquared2’s Italian-crafted covetable shoes and bags.
The 2016 Four Seasons Jet was officially unveiled last month in all its champagne-and-caviar–inspired glory. As the luxury hotel brand forges into the private jet marketplace, they hope to distinguish themselves with a full-tour experience for the $132,000 price tag.
It starts inside the Boeing 757, where travelers can recline in Italian leather lie-flat seats beneath Mongolian cashmere blankets, Bose headphones clamped firmly on the ears, and Dom Perignon at the ready. The jet’s carpets are wool, the livery a high-gloss black. (This is no commuter flight.)
Each Four Seasons flight comes with its own executive chef, sous chef, guest services manager, and an in-flight concierge to cater to the 52 passengers onboard.
The next journey in January 2016 will take these lucky jet-setters on a 24-day world tour, a Los Angeles–Kona–Bora Bora–Sydney–Bali–Chiang Mai–Mumbai–Prague–London itinerary that also includes stays at Four Seasons properties, meals and drinks, and private excursions.
Milan’s newest art center, the Fondazione Prada, makes its long-awaited debut on May 9, and it includes one very cool element: a cafe designed by the director of The Grand Budapest Hotel and Rushmore.
Designer Miuccia Prada is always one step ahead of the curve—and her new Rem Koolhaas-designed Fondazione Prada, is no exception. Located in a former distillery dating back to the 1910s, the 205,000-square-foot arts center includes an open-air cinema, a four-story permanent installation space conceived by Robert Gober called The Haunted House, and even an underground exhibition devoted to the inspirations behind Thomas Demand‘s famous photograph, Grotto. But perhaps the most exciting element is the Fondazione’s cafe, designed by director Wes Anderson.

The Battle of the Streaming Services is heating up, as Spotify prepares to make a major announcement that could undercut expected rival, Apple’s Beatsmusic streaming service, momentum going into their launch. On Thursday, May 7, the Swedish based company delivered invitations to members of the media for an taking place on May 20. The invitation had a simple message, “We’ve got some news.”
According to experts and insiders, Spotify has been working on a web video business, which could be up and running as early as this month. It is assumed that this announcement will focus on this video development, as well as news that the company will also expand into podcasts.
Spotify has scheduled their event a mere two weeks before Apple‘s annual Worldwide Developers Conference. Many believe that this will be the moment where Apple announces their Spotify competitor, which would have strong ties to Beats’ technology and services, iTunes, iOS, and Apple TV.
While Spotify is adding some interesting new features, at the end consumers’ decisions may come down to their budget, which Apple’s service edges out. Spotify’s Premium service is $9.99 per month, whereas Apple’s expected competitor is rumored to launch at $7.99. It’s hard to predict who will come out the victor, but both companies have definitely thrown down their respective gauntlets.
