Spring 2016 Takes Center Stage – TREND UPDATE

With fashion front and center during New York, Paris, Milan and London fashion week, we can’t help but plan ahead and take a sneak peak at what our Spring 2016 wardrobe is going to look like. (Spoiler alert, it’s amazing).

This year, designers from around the world stunned with new looks such as the staple white shirt redesigned, pleats (so many pleats!), the flat mule, Spanish inspired, fringe, net, paperbag waists, lightweight denim and more! Here’s what you need to know:

FRINGE FOR THE WIN

The fringe trend made a comeback a few seasons ago, but Derek Lam, Edun, Prabal Gurung and Diane Von Frustenberg made it very clear, this statement is here to stay!

GET IT, NET

There was no stopping the net trend this season. No matter what show you were watching, you’d find a model sporting this fishy trend. Our favorites? Marchesa, Alexander Wang, Cushnie et Ochs, Proenza Schouler and Dion Lee.

nets

PLEATS PLEASE!

While we saw a comeback with oversized pleats for Fall 2015/2016, this season the trend shrunk to micropleats. Designers such as Altuzarra, Boss and Proenza redefined the trend with a smaller, tighter pleat.

THE NOT-SO-BASIC, BASIC.

Think you’re covered in the basic clothing department? Think again… The classic oxford got a makeover, and we love it! 3.1 Phillip Lim, Monse, Delpozo and Zac Posen are to thank for this unique twist on the PWS (perfect white shirt).

WGY: We’re huge fans of fitness and living an all around healthy style, so we understand the obsession. But our readers want to know, what got you so involved in this lifestyle?

MATT: My passion for health and fitness began in college at Montclair State University, where I majored in Exercise Science. I learned a tremendous amount about exercise and nutrition and I felt right at home. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about this field and I was able to apply my experiences as a collegiate baseball player in a classroom setting. After I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science, I had an incredible opportunity to intern at Elite Athletic Performance Center in New Jersey, where I shadowed the best professionals in the field of health and fitness and learned a remarkable amount about the true underlying meaning of fitness and the fine details of what it means to be a true specialist. The commitment of hard working individuals wanting to make a change in their lives to become healthier and happier, and the fact that I was able to be a part of their journey to success was what really grasped me to this career.

WGY: I know some people might fall off the fitness wagon after the summer month’s pass but can you explain to any discouraged readers the importance of sticking with this lifestyle?

MATT: Fitness and eating healthy is very important part of life because this results for you to look and feel your best at all times. An unhealthy diet and an inactive lifestyle are the causes of serious illnesses such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and even death. By choosing to eat healthy and exercising consistently, you are protecting yourself from these complications and living a high quality of life.

WGY: If you had to choose 3 favorite fitness moves, what would it be?

MATT: Walking Lunges- Pull Ups- Bench Press

WGY: We hear all of this talk about “plateauing” when it comes to working out. How important is it to mix it up in the gym?

MATT: Obviously the same exact program won’t work forever but it’s extremely important to remember that in order to get good at anything you must stick with it for a bit to master it. Focus on doing a great job with a great program and use the micro progression principle each week. By micro progression I mean whatever is the slightest move forward from the program of the previous week in order to sustain constant improvement.

WGY: Not everyone has the same goals when working out, do you personalize fitness plans based on the client’s wants and needs?

MATT: Yes, I focus on individualization. Every person is different. Each individual has their own genetic makeup and limitations and should be treated in their own specific way than anyone else. Every single one of my clients has an initial assessment done depending on their goals to allow me to customize a program that can truly help them achieve their goals.

WGY: How important do you think diet is when working out? What type of diet do you recommend to be followed while weight training?

MATT: In order to be in your best shape, both exercise and nutrition are vital factors. You cannot focus on one and ignore the other to see maximum results. If you only stick to a diet and exclude exercise, you may lose weight but you will also lose muscle as well as bone mineral density. In my opinion, it is 60% diet and 40% exercise to be at your optimal shape. I generally like carbohydrate cycling so on intense training days you recover and on lighter days you can cut your intake down to maximize results.

WGY: You mentioned earlier the importance of nutrition and how it goes hand in hand with working out, so we want to hear about your app! We know that you’re trying to make fine dining enjoyable and healthy with your new application and website, Skinny Table.

MATT: Yes, dining out is a huge passion of mine and extremely important to thousands of my clients as many of them have to dine out frequently for a variety of reasons! Skinnytable.com takes the Top 100 Rated Restaurants from major cities of the United States and provides a custom Healthy Recommendations Menu for each Top Rated Restaurant. SkinnyTable considers “healthy” to be low calorie, low carbohydrate and minimal gluten or gluten free items. Each restaurant has their own profile and we are currently finalizing the OpenTable Affiliate Program for Reservations. Our vision is to take the worry out of dining out and make it enjoyable by creating awareness of many healthy items on each restaurant menu. We’re planning on being in 18 Major Cities in the United States by the end of 2016 in the US and then from there we plan on taking SkinnyTable global!

Q&A With Michael Rosen, Founder of Buzz Art Auction

No matter what your passion is, WGY Lifestyle provides you the exclusive access and content into the most elite industries. That’s why today, we’re interviewing art mogul, Michael Rosen, a successful entrepreneur and creative visionary who’s setting out to take over the country with his newest project, Buzz Art Auction.

Screen Shot 2015-09-18 at 12.42.06 PM

WGY: We’ve been hearing this entire “buzz” about Buzz Art Auction; tell our readers what your event really is about?

Michael: Buzz Art Auction was my way to redefine the traditional art auction style. I wanted to do something cool for the younger generation to help build and develop their art collections. By adding in a no-reserve style, mixology programs, live entertainment and celebrity DJs it gives a unique and fun atmosphere to the art world.

WGY: How did you get into the art industry?

Michael: I earned my undergraduate degree from the renowned art program at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2008 and started working with legendary pop-artist Romero Britto. From there, I went on to become the CEO of Photorealism, the worlds leading publisher of photo-realist art. Soon after, I founded Sayet Group, a creative agency organizing and promoting independent art, musical and other iconic cultural events. After dipping my toes into the industry, I decided that I wanted to continue doing events. I single-handedly threw the largest Salvador Dali and Keith Haring traveling exhibit to come to the USA that had a combined attendance of over 50,000 people throughout a one-week period. This eventually led me to start Buzz Art Auction, my newest passion.

WGY: This isn’t your typical type of old school art auction because it’s street art, plus it’s a no reserve auction. Explain to our readers what this really means.

Michael: To put this in simple terms, a no reserve auction means that you can win a $50,000 Banksy piece for $50. Talk about a steal!

WGY: What type of artists can your guests expect to find at Buzz Art Auction?

Michael: You can expect to find many original works by the world’s top street and contemporary artists. You can find artists including but not limited to Banksy, Kenny Scharf, Crash and Icy Sot.

WGY: I see that a portion of proceeds goes to charity, tell us more about this. What types of charities benefit from this?

Michael: We like to partner with foundations that give back to the community and help the children. We’ve partnered before with Ronald McDonald House, Miami Children’s Hospital, Best Buddies and JMJ Foundation just to name a few.

WGY: So this is the first year that Buzz Art Auction will be going Nationwide. That gives our readers a lot of options to check out these events! What cities will you be in?

Michael: We’ll be doing 10 events throughout the country this year starting in New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, LA, San Fransisco, Miami, Dallas, Atlanta and Toronto.

WGY: With three adjectives, how would you describe the vibe at your events?

Michael: Energetic, thrilling and high energy

WGY: What was your biggest challenge in getting these events going?

Michael: The logistics of bringing in all of the top artists from around the world was a challenge but worth it in the end.

WGY: Any last words for our readers?

Michael: Get ready to raise your paddles, Buzz Art Auction is coming to a city near you. Make sure to check it out!

A Hotel Fit For a King… Literally

versailles-07

Year after year, thousands of tourists from around the world head to the Palace of Versailles to tour the iconic Chateau. Located just an hour outside of Paris, the former home to the French monarchy is famous for its history, stunning palace and exquisite gardens. Not only is the property famed for history buffs, but it’s also notorious among the fashion crowd as well (it was recently shot for the stunning Dior Secret Garden campaign).

Versailles, which was once fit for a king or queen, will be opening its doors to a new set of royalty, a luxury hotel like no other. The palace has opened the bids for hotel groups and private companies to pitch for the new hotel, which will be located within three former 17th century homes that are currently not in use upon the property.
